 By definition, the main job of a leader is to lead the organization.  The obvious question arises:
  • Lead to what?

The obvious follow up questions are:

  • Lead where?

  • What will future services/products look like?
  • What are the boundaries now?

The starting point to answer the above questions is to develop a new Vision Statement or enhance/change an existing Vision Statement.  A leader will never be greater than the vision that guides him or her.

Most traditional methodologies of developing a Vision Statement result in pretty posters on the walls and vision cards in employee's wallets.  Posters are fine, but they do not produce results by themselves.  A leader wants a lot more than the posters.  A leader wants to dream, and work to make the dreams come true.
