VISION MYTHS

Only the very top guy (e.g., a CEO) can initiate the process of developing a Vision Statement.

Each division or department or group or major project can not have its own Vision Statement.
A Vision Statement must be limited to one or two sentences.
A Vision Statement should read like poetry.
A Vision Statement must contain powerful and sophisticated sounding words.
Developing a Vision Statement is easy.
Developing a Vision Statement should take only a couple of hours.

A Vision Statement is only a dream that probably will not come true, so why put effort in its development.

The main reason for developing a vision is because the Board or Investors or the boss wants it.

A consultant can develop the vision for an organization without much effort on part of the organization.
The most cost effective way to develop a Vision Statement is to buy a template for $7.00 online.
All organizations in the same industry or category have the same vision.
The vision does not need to be unique, it simply can be copied from a competitor.
There is no need to do a thorough analysis of the present state of an organization to develop the vision.
A Vision Statement and a Mission Statement are one and the same.
In formulating a vision, available resources have no bearing.
In formulating a vision, there is no need to consider strategies that may be available.
Conditioning and fears of the people in the organization have nothing to do with the development of a vision.
There is no sense in thinking of various aspects of implementation in developing a Vision Statement.
The end goal of developing a Vision Statement is to have posters on the walls and vision cards in employee wallets.
A Vision Statement does not need to respond to changing market conditions.
Competition is not a factor in developing a vision statement.
A new vision essentially means making people feel bad by making them uncomfortable.
Developing or revising a Vision Statement means that the past was wrong.
The life span of a Vision Statement is forever.

Do not let the myths doom you to less than a spectacular
success.  To learn more, please contact us.
